A USEFUL SEQUENCE. 4/17/09 from Victor

We've emphasized that Matrix Meditations is descriptive, not prescriptive. That is, we offer you resources, in a programmatic manner, that we ourselves, and many of our students, have found to work well, and then leave you free to discover what works for you.

We have, however, found the following approach to be widely useful:

1. Begin with the Starting Sequence of circling to find your balance point, six breaths to feel your breathing, six breaths to notice and let go of whatever physical tension you're holding (as described in Cells 0, 1 and 2 of Matrix Meditations). Then continue with ten snapshot breaths (Cell 9) using a moving mudra (Cell 4). Move into a concentrative meditation of your choice, from among those found in in Matrix Meditations' Directory of Concentrative Meditations, to calm and focus your busy mind. Then transition into either a pure mindfulness meditation such as Just Noticing (Cell 7), Frame by Frame (Cell 29), or Total Attention (Cell 33); or if you prefer, into one of the practices found in the Directory of Contemplative Meditation. In our exprience, either the mindfulness meditation or the contemplative meditation is likely to be most effective if you have prepared your mind for it with the starting sequence and a period of concentrative meditation. Of course, this entire sequence is feasable only if you can devote about thirty minutes to your meditation. If you can't take that much time, then choose what intuitively feels like it wil be most useful to you at that time. --Victor.

Matrix Meditations and The movie "The Matrix." 4-16-10 from Victor. "Is there a connection between the two?" people sometimes ask us. Yes and No. The "no" is that in Matrix Meditations, "Matrix" is simply a word we liked better than "grid" or "table" or what-have-you to describe the 65-cell structure of the Matrix of Consciousness. The "yes" is that in a sense, the Matrix of Consciousness is an Anti-Matrix vis-a-vis the movie, which we might call a depiction of the "Matrix of Unconsciousness." We're definitely on the side of Mobius and Neo. Mobius articulately describes the manner in which most people are unconscious of the social forces that determine their actions, while at the same time thinking of themselves as making individualistic choices. We see a similar condition in today's society, which while not run by machines, turns a large share of the population into acting like machines. The Matrix of Consciousness is a tool for breaking out of that trance, that programming.

Goals in Meditation? 1-23-09 from Kooch.

Do you have a goal when you meditate? A friend of mine said that is statement is an oxymoron.
My goal: To dive beyond conventional time and space. Perhaps a better goal would be to just sit and meditate. Since I’ve broken my leg, my mind stubbornly rebels against sitting in silence.

Concerns About "Am I doing it right?" 1-22-09 from Victor
Some people start to meditate and then say, "I think I must not be doing it right. I'm too distracted," or "I think I'm sitting wrong" or whatever. If you're

doing a formal practice in a Zendo or Ashram, then yes, there's a specific wayt to sit and that's part of the practice. Even more important, however, is to simply notice what your mind and body are doing, whatever that is. If you're

feeling scattered and distracted, then notice that. So one goal is to become a better witness of whatever is going on in your mind, body, and emotions.

(ps. The doc says Kooch's leg is healing properly. We gratefully receive your blessings and good wishes for her recovery.) And we send our own compassion and contributions to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The Book is in Print! August 09, Kooch & Victor
.....We had been expecting the book to be available on the previously announced release date of August 15. Two days ago we found out that it's in the warehouse ready to ship, and yesterday we got a box of 20 books in the mail. What a rush, after years of hard work to make this happen!
.....Why should you care? Click on the "What They're Saying" link and you'll see why. It's a book that someone who has never gone near a meditation center can dive right into and start to practice. It's also a rich resource for advanced meditators who want to extend and deepen their inner experience. And, it's even a wonderful self-help resource for someone who has no intention of meditating at all. (Of course, if that describes you, you just might possibly change your mind after you start to read it.)
.....We've discovered that now we have to learn the publicity and promotion game to go along with our writing skills. Our literary agent told us, "If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. Publishers print, authors sell." Okay--a whole exciting new unanticipated mini-career has just appeared on the horizon. When you see how valuable Matrix Meditations is for you personally, please tell your family, friends, colleagues, and social networks on the web about it. We will very much appreciate your help, and the fringe benefit is that you'll also be helping your friends and family by turning them on to something of great value.
.....That's it for our first, little mini-blog..... except for asking you to for your feedback as to what you'd like to see in our blogs. What would you be interested in seeing fill this space?
